Who is Grief Encounter?
This charity provides support for bereaved children and their families to help alleviate the pain caused by the death of someone close. Established in 2003 by Dr Shelley Gilbert MBE, Grief Encounter is one of the UK’s leading bereaved child charities, providing free, pioneering services and support to bereaved children, young people and their families to help alleviate the pain and confusion caused by the death of someone close, whilst prompting healing. The organisation aim to work closely with professionals within the sector, providing training to counsellors, teachers and company employees that will work closely with children who have experienced loss. Grief Encounter offer best practice training at a national level to business and schools at a national level across the UK.
Their Mission:
Grief Encounter promote a different, long term, family focused approach. Their mission is to raise public awareness about bereavement and to be one of the leading providers of support services for bereaved children and their families throughout the UK; in order to help children find outlets for their grief, and a way to move forward. In addition, Grief Encounter aim to work closely with professionals within the sector, providing training to counsellors, teachers and company employees that will work closely with children who have experienced loss.
